A successful WSM Police Toy Drive in your community can be achieved only if certain elements are in place.
Space for a toy warehouse
Volunteer base to collect, separate, and distribute toys
Media cooperation and active involvement
We also request that a few principles which uniquely identify this program are adhered to in order to obtain permission to use the trademarks, logos, and name associated with this Police Toy Drive.
Media Involvment
The WSM Police Toy Drive is designed to involve as many local media outlets as possible. Radio, television, and newspaper outlets will want to promote the toy collection efforts as a public service and promotion and then report on the distribution by the individual officers.
Any media outlet interested in enhancing their community image as well as endearing advertisers can become a WSM Police Toy Drive Media Partner. Sales departments can create advertising packages that promote the partnership between the station and the advertiser to produce benefits for each as well as for the police and the community.
In agreeing to become a Media Partner, a station will:
Actively promote the WSM Police Toy Drive through Public Service Announcements
Approach local sponsors to establish, advertise, and service local toy drop-off locations
Incorporate the WSM Police Toy Drive into remote broadcasts and other promotions
The country music industry, including some 4300 radio stations nationwide, is interested in supporting the WSM Police Toy Drive. There is no exclusive agreement for a country station in any given market to be the local primary media partner, but it is a good place to start.
Local Business Partner Involvement
Local business partners are typically companies with area-wide locations suitable for toy drop-off sites. Business partners must be willing to:
Provide boxes and collect toys at their business locations
Bring the toys to a central location, either their own warehouse or the central toy warehouse
Include the WSM Police Toy Drive in their holiday advertising campaigns
As an example, in Phoenix, EXXON has been a local business partner for several years. They provide toy drop-off boxes at every service station, display WSM Police Toy Drive posters at the pumps, advertise their participation in all their media buys, and even give gasoline certificates to toy pick-up volunteers.
When the WSM Police Toy Drive went statewide, so did EXXON's sponsorship. They have seen a 20% increase per year in toy donations and customer awareness of EXXON's commitment.
Licensing
There are a number of terms and logos developed by WSM Promotions that are copyrighted or registered trademarks. Any organization or group who has received the endorsement of a local police agency and is willing to function within the spirit and general principles of the WSM Police Toy Drive can apply for use of these trademarks.
This license is valid for one (1) year and is granted for the fee of $1. Application can be made through the web site at wsmpromotions.com. A project summary must be completed and sent, faxed, or e-mailed before the license will be renewed.
The purpose of licensing is three-fold:
To ensure that there is only one WSM Police Toy Drive per region
To leverage the work of each locaL WSM Police Toy Drive in order to achieve national name recognition
To maintain the integrity of the WSM Police Toy Drive

Not a Replacement for Current Programs
Many local police agencies currently support and participate in programs such as “Shop With A Cop” and others. The WSM Police Toy Drive is not intended to replace those programs but rather to enhance them by giving individual officers additional opportunities for one-on-one communication with at-risk youths.
